Our precision technology services support variable rate applications, meaning growers can account for in-field variation when creating an application plan to optimise the efficiency of their input programmes.
Variable rate nitrogen service
Nitrogen is one of the most significant investments in crop production, so applying it at the right rate, in the right place and at the right time is essential for optimising yield and reducing environmental impact.
Our variable rate nitrogen (VRN) service uses remote sensing satellite technology to assess crop canopy variation and create targeted nitrogen application plans.
Extensive research and trials work has enabled us to incorporate radar imagery into our offering. Radar imagery is unaffected by cloud cover and provides an accurate measurement of crop growth. When combined with our satellite imagery, growers can access regular cloud-free imagery throughout every application window.
Alongside this, Frontier uses normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) and leaf area index (LAI) data to create an accurate overview of crop performance. The variation in crop canopy is used to assess the crop nitrogen demand at each application and target inputs accordingly to produce a more even, higher-quality crop that makes the most efficient use of inputs.
Variable rate P and K
Yield, straw removal and crop choice will affect how much phosphate (P) and potassium (K) is depleted from the soil each season. With the right uptake of P and K essential to yield, it’s important to make sure the crop has what it needs. Taking a variable rate approach can ensure the delivery of an effective crop nutrition strategy without overspending on areas of land that have higher levels of P and K already available.
Using GPS-guided soil sampling, we create detailed nutrient maps that highlight variability across fields, ensuring fertiliser and organic inputs are applied where they’re needed most.
With instant access to results, our advisors can provide tailored fertiliser recommendations based on soil type, cropping and yield targets.
Field grain analysis
Our field grain analysis service takes a deeper look at the nutrient uptake of crops to optimise application rates, generating insight to help maximise crop performance, achieve premiums next season and assess the effectiveness of your current nutrition strategy.
